Tree Planting for every direct booking at the Sunnyside Guest House Southport

A Tree for Every Direct Booking

Since 2003, we’ve been supporting tree planting in Malawi through charity partner, Ripple Africa.

As a small family-run guest house, we wanted to find a simple way for the stays people enjoy at Sunnyside to have a positive impact somewhere else in the world. So, for every direct booking made with us, we support the planting of a tree in Malawi.

Over the years, this has added up to 1,490 trees planted, including 240 fruit trees. In Malawi, Ripple Africa works with around 100 community groups to grow thousands of fruit trees each year.

The Fruit Tree Project helps communities establish a sustainable source of food while also creating opportunities to generate an income. The groups grow a variety of fruit trees, including mango, papaya, guava, avocado and citrus. Members of the community are taught how to care for the seedlings, make natural fertiliser, identify pests and protect young trees from livestock once they are planted.

Each community group also donates a proportion of its seedlings to local schools and vulnerable people within the community.

Below are the tree planting certificates that we have received over the years.
