Ainsdale Discovery Centre Southport

You can find the Discovery Centre at Ainsdale adjacent to the beach. The Discovery Centre carries out educational activities from 4 year olds to A level students. The centre is open though the school holidays and organises many free activities for children. It is open week days from 9:30am to 4:30pm and during some weekends.

The activities organised by Sefton Council’s coast and countryside team are advertised on the Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership Scheme facebook page. Activities include guided walks out into the dunes and the holiday club for children.

Cycle Paths: There are cycle paths along some sections of the route, particularly near the costal road along Nationa Cycle Network Route 62.

Train: Merseyrail Northern Line from Southport to Ainsdale. The service is direct and runs every 15 minutes from Southport train station on a normal service. Merseyrail Timetable avaiable here.

Roads: The Costal Road is the major road connecting Southport to the Ainsdale . The route is straightforward with clear signage.

Bus: Arriva Bus Service 49 to Ainsdale from Lord Street, Eastbank Street to Formby. Click on the links for bus timetables.

Accessability Information

Ainsdale Discovery Centre General: There are public toilets at the beach entrance which are open when the beach car park is open from April to Sept. Blue badge holders can access the beach car park for free.

 

Many of the trails and walks that take place from the discovery centre go into the dunes or the nature reserves. These walks go along un-even surfaces adn sand that can be difficult for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues.
